2015 in Review: Year of the Personality
As 2015 has recently come to a close, our Facebook feeds are full of links to Top Ten lists and think pieces ruminating on the biggest buzzwords and trends of
Human behavior is really quite simple if you have a model for understanding it. As Francis Bacon said, “A model is a tool for the mind.”
The power of the DISC styles is that they provide a framework for making sense of why people say what they say and do what they do. The styles help us to understand needs, wants, fears, motives, stress response, and much more. A participant in one of my DISC training programs once commented, “My coworkers didn’t come with an instruction manual…until now.”
We could expand that statement to include spouses, children, parents, or just about anyone we interact with. With the DISC styles, we have can understand not only their behavior, but their intention.
It never ceases to amaze me how such a simple model can explain so much.
