The Social, Talkative and Optimistic Parrot
The Parrot style is people-oriented and optimistic. If you’re familiar with the DISC model, Parrots represent the Interactive I style. People with the Parrot style are sociable, influential, and motivational. Always looking at the bright side, Parrots see the best in everyone they meet and can find fun in nearly any situation. Their high energy and creativity are contagious, so if you’re not paying attention, you may just get swept up in their latest adventure.
Like real-life parrots, people with the Parrot style are talkative and always keeping busy. They thrive in flocks, or groups if we are referring to Parrot personalities. Variety is the spice of life, and these folks are anticipating something new and exciting over every horizon.
At work, Parrots generate enthusiasm for each new project. They find the silver lining when projects take an unexpected turn and they initiate the celebration when the project is completed. They boost morale in the organization and have the ability to turn an all-work-no-fun workplace into an environment where people are engaged.
In fact, Parrots prosper when they are free to use their people skills and intuition to bring out the best in themselves and others. Free your Parrots from rigid routines and you will see them thrive in an atmosphere of upbeat energy where almost anything is possible. It’s ok if they don’t seem perfectly organized, you’re seeing creativity in action!
However, it is possible to have too much of a good thing. Unrestrained optimism can become unrealistic. The desire to bond through common experiences can lead Parrots to interrupt others with their own stories. The desire to be accepted by others can lead to exaggeration as they inflate the magnitude of their stories. Fortunately, it just takes a little self-awareness and flexibility to notice these behaviors in ourselves to help bring Parrots back down to a more grounded level.
